I have had the privilege of working with Adam Campbell for the past seventeen years. I was the Chairman/CEO of Blakeslee (an advertising, marketing, and brand development agency) for 31 years, and I worked with dozens of art directors. Among all of them, my favorite to work with has been Adam.
Adam has all the requisite talents that make a good art director – creativity, design eye, and an ability to work in a broad spectrum of mediums (from video to van graphics and from billboards to web pixels). Those are certainly important, but the best art directors, at least in my opinion, are about more than just the “art.”
A tour of Adam’s portfolio will show visuals that fit each client’s brand, and many of those brands’ signature looks were created by Adam’s ability to craft art to fit the message of the brand.
Adam has been a critical component of countless brand development assignments where the task was to figure out what the messaging should be and then decide the best ways to communicate that messaging and finally to figure out the look to make it pop. Adam’s participation in this process is far more than a traditional art director, and there-in lies some of his special value to an agency.
Along the lines of added value, Adam is a stalwart brand protector. As someone who hires creative talent, you know one of the hardest things for an agency to do is keep a client (and the agency!) on track with their messaging. The lure for humans “to put their own spin on things” is almost irresistible. Adam understands the long-term value of consistent branding, and he has the ability to do that while keeping the messaging fresh.
It has been a pleasure for me to work with Adam for all these years. Now that I’m the CEO of a mountain resort company, I’d love to have Adam be on our internal marketing team, but I respect his desire to continue working in a creative agency environment. Adam has been a dedicated part of Blakeslee for almost two decades, and he has been immensely important to the long success of the agency. I recommend Adam with full enthusiasm, and I am happy to have a phone conversation with anyone looking for further discussion about Adam’s talents.
